When you qualify for Baby Your Baby, you will have temporary Medicaid coverage. This will allow you to start your prenatal care right away. Your temporary coverage will pay for your prenatal visits with a health care provider, prenatal vitamins and ultrasounds. The doctor or nurse midwife you visit must be a Medicaid provider. Please fill out a Medicaid application as soon as possible. Your Baby Your Baby card is valid only until the last day of the next month!

If you qualify for Medicaid and you live in Davis, Salt Lake, Utah or Weber County you must choose a health plan and a dental plan. Your doctor or nurse midwife must accept the health plan you choose. Your dentist must accept your dental plan.

When you qualify, you will receive a Welcome Letter from a Health Program Representative (HPR). Your HPR can tell you which health and dental plans you may choose. They can also tell you which doctors, nurse midwives and dentists work with each plan. It is best to choose a doctor or nurse midwife from one of the Medicaid approved HMOs now so you will not have to change health providers when you qualify for Medicaid.

If you already have a doctor or midwife, check to see if he or she is an in-network provider with one of the Medicaid health plans. As soon as you qualify for Medicaid, pick the health and dental your doctor, midwife and dentist works with so you will not have to change providers in the middle of your pregnancy! If you do not choose your health and dental plan, one will be assigned for you.

If you do not live in Davis, Salt Lake, Utah or Weber County you can either choose a health plan or choose to have state Medicaid. You can find what plans are available in your area by going to the Medicaid Benefits website. Use the drop-down box under County Choice Charts to see what plans are available in your area. Pregnant women do not choose a health plan if they live in a county outside the four listed counties.

If you do not already have a doctor or nurse midwife and you live in Davis, Salt Lake, Utah or Weber County, you can receive booklets when you attend a Medicaid group orientation. At the orientation, the HPR will help you choose a doctor or midwife and the HMO that is the best for you. Each health plan book lists obstetric doctors (doctors who take care of pregnant women), midwives and pediatric doctors (doctors who take care of children). Call 1-866-608-9422 to set up an appointment to attend a Medicaid group orientation.
